about us

Axilion Smart Mobility is an Israeli AI software company. Axilion focuses on developing, applying, and implementing software systems (SaaS) based on artificial intelligence (AI), which enable cities to manage their entire mobility system optimally. With Axilion’s solutions, cities can: optimize traffic flow, reduce air pollution, prioritize public transit, and improve road-user safety.

Axilion’s solutions optimize traffic light systems’ timing using a comprehensive analysis of the traffic light network, road users, and network demand. The optimization of traffic flow is achieved without physical infrastructure changes or expensive hardware. Axilion’s unique platform is based on Microsoft Azure’s cloud infrastructure and enables the planning of dozens of linked and timed intersections together, and updates them according to the city’s changing traffic patterns and even provides a future base for dynamic congestion fee-charging and connected autonomous vehicles.

Axilion’s AI-based Digital Twin platform shortens a vehicles’ amount of time at traffic lights by creating “green waves” (where vehicles pass through several lights without stopping). With deceleration and acceleration contributing to 40% of total vehicle CO2 emissions,  “green waves,” considerably reduce traffic-related emissions. Likewise, the creation of “green waves” for public transit helps to shorten commute times, improve arrival time accuracy, and ultimately encourage transit use.

In addition, safer crossings for pedestrians are also created via “green waves.” Axilion’s solutions synchronize the traffic lights to avoid pedestrians caught between crossings in the middle of the road on refuge islands.

Axillion's technology produces many benefits for cities, such as:

  1. Cutting travel time by about 40%.
  2. Reducing air pollution by creating “green waves” and cutting the times vehicles stand at traffic lights, which leads to a significant reduction in the amount of pollutant gases emitted from the vehicle as a result of deceleration and acceleration (stop and go) which contribute 40% of total CO2 emissions by vehicles.
  3. Encouraging the use of public transit by shortening travel times and ensuring high accuracy in arrival time.
  4. Increasing pedestrian safety by creating “green waves” for pedestrians and synchronizing between the arrival of vehicles at the pedestrian traffic light and thus ensuring safe crossing.

Axilion has three SaaS services that it offers:

X Way Pulse: Monitoring system – identification and analysis of the efficiency of the traffic light network in the city generating results within 3 weeks.

X Way Pulse is based on information analysis of video footage captured by cameras installed on vehicles traveling around the city. Information analysis is completed through deep learning networks suited to video that allow an in-depth understanding of the driving experience from the driver’s perspective and the production of integrated transportation insights at intersections, along routes, and throughout the network.

Xway Twin: Creation of a digital “twin city” that builds a model of the city’s transportation network in the cloud. The model is calibrated using the latest traffic counts obtained from the monitoring system and allows simulations and optimization of the city’s traffic lights.

X Way Neural: Automatic optimization and planning service for dynamic traffic light scheduling.

X Way Neural recommends and implements plans for the city traffic light network based on dynamic and distributed measurement of demand levels, various vehicles, road capacity, and driving patterns. X Way Neural is an addition to the X Way Pulse monitoring system and the X Way Twin modeling system.

Axilion has developed its technology through practical application in cities in Israel and around the world as well as close collaboration with leading academic institutions such as the Technion, the Innovation Authority, and Tel Aviv University.

The company employs 35 people in Israel, the United States, and Europe.
